Biography
Chris Wert is a Berks County native, and has always had an
interest in traditional crafts. Her aunt, Jean Ellis, who
was one of the founding members of the Reading-Berks Chapter
of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, and a gifted potter,
taught Chris, the technique of how to decorate redware
pottery using the sgraffito method.
A member of the Reading-Berks Guild since 1972, Chris is
juried at the local chapter and state levels for both
Sgraffito Pottery and Fraktur.
With the assistance of her husband, Allen, Chris is carrying
on this art form using traditional methods and incorporating
her own original designs.
